Australian Government to implement Internet Filters

Slashdot.org reported in it's post about Australian government's intention to put Internet police in place.

Here is a snippet from the actual article:

He (Senator Conroy) says the scheme will better protect children from pornography and violent websites.
"Labor makes no apologies to those that argue that any regulation of the Internet is like going down the Chinese road," he said.
"If people equate freedom of speech with watching child pornography, then the Rudd-Labor Government is going to disagree."

I fail to understand the concept of allowing the content (pornographic) to be published and then setting up a security system to keep the kids away from it.
The best way to kill this kind of problem is to attack the source.

It's all about ridiculous moral policing about showing people what is right and what is not after allowing all sorts of crap. Why don't you try to find sources of Pedophilia and save children which makes more sense and cut off the sources from where this kind of content is uploaded on to Internet? In this hi-tech age, is it so difficult?

Imagine a situation where India is to implement Internet Filter. I am sure Orkut will be one of the first ones to be filtered because it promotes hate groups. Apart from that, the so called unofficial moral police like BJP and Shiv Sena (Read this, this and this).

Sigh !!!
